I’m loving making these fun and quick Halloween themed items. I hope you’ll give the Franen-Beanie a try.
This little guy (hat measures 16″ around) will knit up in an evening using such a small amount of supplies:
- size 8 circular and double pointed knitting needles
- Red heart super saver – spring green & black
- Yarn bee Haute Fur – jetset
- Stitch marker
- Yarn needle
- optional – Small scrap of red for scar
With spring green, cast on 68 st. Being careful not to twist, join and knit a 2″ ribbing using K2 through the back loop, purl 2.
For the “body” of the monster, knit the 4 rows of half linen stitch pattern for 2 ½” ending with a row 2 or row 4
Half linen stitch:
- Round 1: *K1, sl1wyif* repeat between*
- Round 2: k all st
- Round 3: *sl1wyif, k1* repeat between *
- Round 4: k all st
K 1 round even
Follow the 7 rounds of the color chart
Color chart for Hair:
Knit 3 rounds in black followed by 4 round in haute fur
Decrease round 1: *K2tog, k2* repeat between *
Decrease round 2: *k1, k2tog* repeat between *
Use 3 needle bind off
I don’t think any monster is complete without a scar, so with the red yarn and H hook, leave a 3” tail, chain 8. Cut a long tail for sewing
Pull short tail through from front to back where the scar will end. using the long tail, sew through the chains to attach the scar.
Pull the yarn across the scar twice at the beginning, middle and end of the scar.
Pull through to the back and tie off
If you make a Franken-Beanie, I’d love to see the final product. You can post it here or on Facebook.
