My Hexi Hat

I knit up this hat and immediately fell in love. The color, the fit, the way it made the color of my hair look – everything was perfect.

And then, as I was making dinner Margaux, our French bulldog puppy, got really quiet.

I froze.

The hair on the back of my neck stood on end.

Slowly I turned around to see my beautiful hat being ripped apart.

Mr. E patiently listened to my tail of woe, and then he drove me to Hobby Lobby to buy some new yarn, since I couldn’t remember where I got the Painted Sky yarn. I settled for I love this yarn in aqua blue.

With a size 7 circular needle crochet cast on 84 stitches. Careful not to twist K1, p1 For 1 ¾”

Now work in purl 2 through the front loop, yarn over until the hat is 9” tall

To decrease for the crown, place stitch markers every 14 stitches

Round 1: *K2tog, k10, k2tbl* repeat between * 5 more times

Round 2 and all even rounds: purl

Round 3: *K2tog, k8, k2tbl* repeat between * 5 more times

Round 5: *K2tog, k6, k2tbl* repeat between * 5 more times

Round 7: *K2tog, k4, k2tbl* repeat between * 5 more times

Round 9: *K2tog, 2, k2tbl* repeat between * 5 more times

Round 11: *K2tog, k2tbl* repeat between * 5 more times

Cut yarn and draw through remaining st.

Tuck ends

One of the many cool things about this hat is it’s also reversible if you tuck your ends carefully. Here is inside and outside of the remake…
